Mary Murphy

MSW LCSW

My clinical practice of almost thirty years has been a focus on helping my clients work through their problems and life challenges and developing strategies to meet their life goals. My supportive interactive therapy style allows my clients to explore their problems whether traumatic life events or smaller prevailing issues.

From my first social service job while attending college and working at a treatment center for abused and emotionally handicapped children to the present running my own psychotherapy practice, I have served people of all ages, backgrounds and cultures. My experience ranges from interning with the United States Army in Germany providing counseling services to service men and women and their families to caring for developmentally and psychologically disabled youths and adults in hospital and community settings. As the director of the battered women’s shelter serving Hudson County as well as the director of the rape crisis unit for Hudson County at the Jersey City Medical Center I have helped numerous women and their children recover and rebuild their lives.

I am a trained first responder by the Red Cross and the NJ Division of Mental Health. I have provided lectures and training on the assessment and treatment of sexual assault and domestic violence to social service agencies, judges, police, and medical providers. I have also appeared on local and national television as a mental health professional including a guest appearance on The Montel Williams Show.
